The Student Audit and Research in Surgery (STARSurg) collaborative is a national, student-led audit and research network with representation from all UK medical schools.

It empowers students to participate in high quality academic projects, forming links with supervising junior doctors and consultants. Through this, students contribute data to national studies while gaining an understanding of clinical academia, audit and research methodology, and ethical considerations. Our authorship policy designates PubMed-citable co-authorship to all collaborators. The most recent study saw 258 student collaborators representing 31 UK medical schools collaborate to collect outcomes data over a two-week period on a prospective cohort of 1500 patients across 109 UK hospitals.

Elective Bursary Opportunity From BOTA:

The aim of the £500 bursary is to help with the funding of an elective in an orthopaedic centre in the UK or abroad. The applicant must be an undergraduate medical student in a UK medical school within the final two years or training.

What you need to do: Write a one-page description of your planned elective and how it will benefit your career as a future orthopaedic surgeon. Submit a copy of correspondence from your supervisor confirming your elective plans, together with a one-page CV. BOTA would expect a written report to be submitted on return from the elective, this will be published in the BOTA Yearbook.

All applications to be sent by email to: academic@bota.org.uk
