Basic Surgical Workshop 1 - "From the beginning"

Location: Lecture Theatre 2- Education Centre - opposite the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), Upper Maudlin Street
Cost: Scrubs members £3 (£5 non-members)
Open to: All medics (no previous experience required) ONLY 30 PLACES
A great introductory workshop for all those new to surgery with a high surgeon:student ratio for the best possible teaching. This practical workshop begins with a 10 minute introductory presentation on Surgery as a career and pursues with a practical session that covers: how to instrument tie knots, how to measure and place stitches, how to complete basic interrupted sutures and knot tying. A certificate is awarded to all of those who complete this workshop and the advanced suturing workshop  - a great way to enhance your CV.

Advanced Surgical Workshop 1 - "How to close the wound"

Location: Lecture Theatre 3- Education Centre- opposite the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), Upper Maudlin Street
Cost: Scrubs members £3 (£5 non-members)
Open to: All medics who HAVE attended the basic suturing workshop ONLY 30 PLACES
Leading on from the basic suturing workshop, this workshop begins with a 10 minute presentation introducing clinical case-based teaching allowing attendees to discover the clinical reasoning and undertaking of surgical patients. Following this presentation, students are given the opportunity to complete continuous sutures, mattress sutures (vertical and horizontal), subcuticular sutures and tying at depth according to their level. There is a high surgeon:student ratio to maximise the teaching time you receive and successful completion of the workshop will lead to the award of a certificate for your CV.

Suturing with tissues- "Tendon Repairs"

A chance to test the skills that you have learnt in the first term to complete a 'mini surgical procedure' using real animal tissue.
